A New Generation at Château des Antonins

In France, it seems that everyone has a cousin or aunt or uncle who makes wine, and often they are more than happy to procure a bottle. An above-average amount of tact is typically required to fully appreciate and praise the wine made by a lovely relative, while adeptly avoiding to promise or encourage any future tastings.

So imagine how pleased I was at a friend’s wedding in Bordeaux, when we were received by her lovely aunt and uncle de Roquefeuille in the garden of the Château des Antonins, and the wines were actually good. And a future tasting proved that the wines were indeed better than I remembered.

The youthful 25-year-old Antoine de Roquefeuille has just taken over the vineyard work and winemaking, and credits the quality of their wines to the unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in their vineyards which results in an equal blend of Cabernet and Merlot. The domaine also produces an excellent crisp Bordeaux Blanc and Rosé. Antoine plans to continue to plant Cabernet Sauvignon and continue the legacy of producing excellent quality, good value wines to serve at weddings (and other occasions) for years to come.
