The variety Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) comes from the El Tomillar vineyard, which means 'field of thyme' in Spanish. The site is located in the village of El Pego, situated in the southeastern part of the Zamora province. The majority of the grapes for El Torito are grown on very old vines rooted in sandy soils, which helped to keep phylloxera at bay.
